New Water Efficiency Systems Report

The County's Public Works department has updated its report on water efficiency systems. They've put together a cohesive program that includes several new initiatives that have been shown to be effective in increasing water efficiency. Director of Public Works Rob Walton says they've used the program once already. "It was done in 2010. We have had one project in Tillsonburg. It was highly successful and we've saved more then the targets we set in that and it was a large amount of money, about $190,000 in the particular project." County Councillor Pat Sobeski did some research and found that the 250-thousand dollar cap in the program was too high. "All the other communities I looked at, Waterloo Region, Peel Region, City of Toronto, Guelph; they all base it not on the cost of the project but basically on the amount of water that's saved. So the rebates that they provide is based on the water savings. And I thought that was not captured in the report before council". Sobeski made a motion to reduce this amount. The program will come back to be approved by council after the necessary changes are made.
