Nith River Water Levels Running Low

The Grand River Conservation Authority are urging users of the Nith River watershed to reduce their consumption by 20 percent. According to the Grand River Low Water Response Team, the levels in the river have dropped to less than half of the average summer flow. Much of the Grand River watershed has gone two weeks or longer without any rain, prompting the GRCA to issue the same consumption request for Whitemans Creek last week. The most significant action that residents can take in conserving water is limiting lawn watering and other outdoor water usage. Farmers are also being encouraged to stagger their irrigation with neighbours to assist in conserving water. New Hamburg, Ayr, New Dundee, Plattsville and Drumbo are just a few of the communities that are within the Nith River watershed.
