No One Injured in Second Flying Tire Incident In One Month

Two adults and four children are counting themselves lucky after a rogue tire hit a minivan on the 401

No one was hurt after another rogue tire caused on accident on the 401 near Sweaburg road.

The incident happened last Thursday when a tractor trailer lost a double set of wheels. The tires bounced over the median and struck a minivan headed eastbound. Thankfully the two adults and four children inside were not hurt.

OPP Constable Stacey Culbert says the police are working to educate commercial truck drivers about safety regulations.

"As you can imagine with the OPP being well aware of this, we do have our highway safety division members that are trained for pulling over and doing truck inspections and that runs alongside with the Ministry of Transportation, so those efforts are continuing and will continue to do that, especially within our travelled highways in the Oxford County area."

The driver of the truck is from Quebec and he faces two charges including unsafe commercial vehicle and failure to provide insurance. Culbert says the onus for safety needs to fall on the drivers and the companies they drive for.

"We just have to ensure that the person behind the wheel of that vehicle checks their safety logs to make sure that that vehicle is safe to drive, and if it isn't make sure you bring it up with your company to say this needs to be done, this needs to be done immediately."

Culbert notes this incident is very similar to a case earlier this month that claimed to life of a South West Oxford woman.
