Officer Charged

An off duty officer facing charges following July collision

WOODSTOCK - An off duty City police officer is facing a pair of charges following a collision back in July.

Police say it happened in the early morning hours on July 4 at the corner of Dundas and Oxford Streets in Woodstock.

The investigation revealed a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a Canada Post mailbox on Oxford Street before coming to a stop against a wooden fence. Police say the vehicle was gone by the time they showed up.  Damage to the mailbox and fence was minimal and no injuries occurred as a result of the collision.

As a result of the investigation, 29 year old Mitchell Blair of the Woodstock area has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Report Damage to Property under the Highway Traffic Act.    Blair is a constable with Woodstock Police but was off duty at the time.

He will appear in court later this month to answer to the charges.
