Operation Freeze

OPP officers are offering up a cool beverage when they spot behaving children

OXFORD – Ontario Provincial Police officers are once again on the look out for kids doing good.

"For example, a kid getting off his bike, walking it across a pedestrian crosswalk, wearing his bicycle helmet and the police officer and then get out, talk to the child and give them a positive-ticket to reinforce their good behaviour," said Oxford OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik.

"It gets [police officers] interacting with people in a different way than they normally be interacting with the public. It creates a positive, feel-good environment for everybody," she said.

The tickets officers issue are actually coupons for a free drink at Mac’s Convenience Stores.

The initiative is called Operation Freeze and will run through the summer months, but Narancsik said the force's proactive policing doesn't end with the turn of the season.

"We try to do it all year round, so because it's the hotter, warmer weather now we do it with Operation Freeze and in the winter time it's the heat, so we give out hot chocolate in the winter-time," Narancsik said.
