Southwestern Public Health wants to make sure Oxford County is aware of the Opioid related services available to them.

OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health has released their latest assessment on opioid related services in Oxford County.

Public Health Planner Laura Gibbs says Oxford County is feeling the impacts of the opioid crisis in Canada.

"We estimated last year that about 400 to 1200 residents may be at risk of experiencing harms related to opioid and other substance misuse and we have seen opioid related deaths increase slightly since 2005."

The report outlines the findings from an assessment on opioid-related services in Oxford County. Gibbs says the report findings highlight five potential gaps in service, including services in rural municipalities.

"The development of a local drug strategy, including an overdose response plan for Oxford County must be supported by a strong evidence base, through a collaborative and innovative approach that encompasses prevention, treatment, harm reduction and justice and community safety approaches to substance misuse."

The published report is titled "Experiences of Delivering and Accessing Opioid-Related Services in Oxford County: Working Together to Meet People’s Unique Needs" and is available online at Southwestern Public Health. You can access it online here.
