OPP Are Reminding The Public To Start 2016 Off Responsibly

OPP say time is the best solution after a night of drinking.

The OPP are reminding everyone the only thing that will sober you up after a night of drinking is time.

Oxford OPP Constable Stacey Culbert is reminding everyone to be aware of their own personal limitations, "The rule of thumb is usually for every one: you need at least an hour for that alcohol to get out of your system. But again, for every person it's going to be different; a person that may be a slighter stature it might take longer to get out of your system however a person that alcohol doesn't react well to their system at all could be larger and a taller stature and that may still a factor for them."

Constable Culbert says officers will be out on the morning of New Year's Day to help deter anyone who takes a chance behind the wheel.

"People are not so much surprised anymore because they see us conducting those R.I.D.E programs early because the alcohol is still in their system. If you have a couple hours sleep after having a few drinks all night long and being with your friends and celebrating there is a very high chance that you could still be impaired."

The OPP are asking everyone to ring in the New Year responsibly, and Culbert says even one drink can be too much for some people.

"We certainly have been conducting R.I.D.E. programs throughout the past few months in connection with the Festive R.I.D.E. season but the message is still not getting across to everybody. The only thing that's going to allow you to have that alcohol if you are partaking over the holidays with New Year's coming up is time. Even one drink can affect someone's ability to drive."
