OPP Charge 89 People This Long Weekend

OPP hand out tickets for speeding, not wearing a seat belt and impaired driving this long weekend.

It was a busy long weekend for Oxford OPP.

During the course of the weekend they charged 52 people with speeding, 15 with hazardous moving violations, 11 people were ticketed for not wearing a seat belt and 40 year old woman from Ingersoll was charged with impaired driving. Constable Stacey Culbert tells Heart FM they did charge one person with impaired driving this long weekend and she notes even just 1 person is still too many.

"I mean we certainly wouldn't call it be lucky when we still have people choosing to drink and drive on our roadways, but yes the statistics were down from this last year during this time period, the reminder is always there and we want to make sure people aren't drinking and driving."

Oxford OPP also wrapped up their fall seat belt campaign which ran from September 23rd to October 9th and they ticketed 34 people for not wearing their seat belt.

"So we did a decrease in the number of seat belt tickets handed out from the same time frame in 2014, however we did still ticket 34 people for not wearing a seat belt in Oxford County down from 76 during the same time period last year."

The OPP would like to remind the motoring public to ensure that everyone in the vehicle is buckled in properly, and remind motorists to never drink and drive, to pay attention to the road at all times and to refrain from aggressive driving.
