OPP Launch Aggressive Driving Campaign

Oxford OPP will be targeting aggressive driving with a campaign starting today and running until Canada Day

Oxford OPP will be targeting aggressive driving with a campaign starting today and running until Canada Day.

The police will have extra resources on our local highways as they try to ensure everybody has a happy and safe Canada Day week. OPP sargeant Dave Rektor tells Heart FM Why they are running this campaign. "It's the start to the summer holidays for a lot of people, so we are expecting a lot of vehicles on the road, with that and moving into the Canada day week, we've already reached a total of 28 dead in the month of June."

Rektor says speed was a factor in 23 of those fatal collisions while alcohol or drug use could be blamed in 14 of them. Oxford OPP will be out in full targeting the big four, speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving and not wearing a seat belt. The OPP will also have a strong presence on the water this long weekend and will be patrolling the ATV trails as well.

According to OPP Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support, no one plays as significant a role in preventing aggressive driving-related road crashes as safe drivers.
