OPP Launch Zero Tolerance, Zero Collisions Campaing

Norfolk OPP experienced a very deadly month of December and they hope launching a new campaign will encourage drivers to be more responsible.

A heads up if you're heading to Norfolk County over the next couple of days as the OPP will be conducting a zero tolerance traffic blitz.

Police will be targeting distracted driving, speeding, not wearing a seat belt, and making proper stops at intersections. Constable Ed Sanchuk says they certainly won't be handing out any warnings during the blitz.

"We always do a lot of education, we do a lot of media related releases, we have educated the public several times, this will be zero tolerance. When you're out there and you're putting other drivers at risk - not only yourself but other motorists - you can expect to be charged.

Sanchuk says the zero tolerance campaign will run every month in the new year with the first happening this Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m to 5 p.m. He tells Heart FM what prompted the Zero Tolerance Zero Collisions campaign.

"I can sit here with a heavy heart and tell you we have had way too many fatalities in Norfolk County; in the past month alone we had 3 fatalities on the roads and people need to slow down."
