OPP Say Buckling Up Increasing

OPP reporting a 41 percent decrease in misused seat belt related deaths since 2005.

OXFORD COUNTY - An encouraging report from the OPP is suggesting that the message about buckling up is finally clicking in. The OPP recently released the results of a ten year survey concerning the use of seat belts on our roadways. Ten years ago 120 deaths were reported due to seat belt misuse. Compared with the 2014 stats there has been a 41 percent decrease in the number of deaths associated with seat belt misuse.

"Continue to buckle up, buckle up if you don't normally buckle up - keeping all the distractions set aside and make sure everybody in the car is also buckled up, it's also important for the driver and the passengers because anyone or anything not held down becomes a projectile inside the vehicle if there is a collision," said Oxford County OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik.

It's also important for drivers to ensure the safety of their youngest passengers cautions Narancsik.
