Oxford Lions Donate Comedy Night Funds

The Oxford Lions Club has donated $5,400 in funds from their Music and Comedy Night to VON Sakura House.

The Oxford Lions Club has donated $5,400 to VON Sakura House and $3,000 to the Wellington Animal Rescue Fund.

WOODSTOCK - Two local organizations are sending out a big thank you to the Oxford Lions Club who have once again stepped forward with the proceeds of the Music and Comedy night.

VON Sakura House received $5,400 while the Wellington Animal Rescue Fund gratefully accepted $3,000.

Chair of the VON Oxford Community Board John Goodbun is very appreciative of groups like the Lions who keep coming back time and time again.

"[Sakura House] is a million dollar operation and of course the people that stay there and are cared for do it at no cost of their own, so as long as we continue to raise funds and community support like from the Oxford Lions it is paramount to what we are trying to do."

Office Administrator for the Wellington Animal Hospital Kim Stere says this money will help fund surgeries and care for animals who have no where else to turn.

"At one point they would just be euthanized due to the long term care. We've had some here for up to six months and that takes a lot of time and effort to get them back where they need to be."

Oxford Lions member Steve Newton says they know donating to these causes makes a big impact on our community.

"We really appreciate what VON Sakura House provides to the community and we also appreciate what the Wellington Animal Hospital does in donating their time and resources in helping injured animals to bringing them to a point where they can be adopted by a family."

Newton says the club is already planning another Music and Comedy Night for next year.

The Wellington Animal Hospital Rescue Fund has received $3,000 from the Oxford Lions Club.
