Oxford Welcomes New Public Works Director

David Simpson will be welcomed into his new role as the Director of Public Works on August 9th.

Oxford County has hired a new director of Public Works.

David Simpson will take over the role left vacated by Robert Walton on August 9th of this year. Simpson joins the County from the Halton Region where he was the manager of infrastructure planning.

He also has experience in capital planning in a region that, like Oxford, encompasses both small and large communities.

Simpson's academic background includes Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Ryerson University, Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences from Brock University, and Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo.

CAO of Oxford County Peter Crockett says they are very excited to welcoming David Simpson to the team.

"Oxford County has marked several key achievements over the past two years, most notably our work towards achieving 100% renewable energy, becoming a zero waste community, and moving to low carbon transportation through a municipal green fleet and electric vehicle charging infrastructure for our community. We're excited to welcome David to Oxford County and to work with him and the Public Works team to continue to advance these initiatives and others."

Simpson for his part is excited to get the ball rolling and tells Heart FM what attracted him to the County.

"Oxford is a very progressive municipality, honestly it is very well positioned for success under Peter Crockett's leadership and vision and the support of council as well. I was looking ahead to some of the growth forecasts in the County and we have over 13,000 new jobs coming by 2041, as well as approximately another 18,000 residents. I really think that all bold's well to keep driving the local economy in Oxford and everything that goes along with that."
