Pedestrian Safety Campaign

Roughly 104 pedestrians are killed in traffic accidents every year in Canada.

Woodstock Police and Oxford OPP are teaming up for the Pedestrian Safety Campaign.

The campaign starts on Tuesday across the Province. The Oxford County Injury Prevention Team and police officers will be attending local public schools in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg to educate pedestrians about safety and to hand out reflective safety arm bands.

Pedestrians account for 13% percent of the fatal and serious collisions in Canada every year. This year traffic fatalities are the highest they have been in five years. Between 2009 and 2013 there was an average of 104 pedestrians killed every year.

Police wanted to issue the following message to all residents in Oxford and Woodstock.

"Remain safe, be alert, be seen, stay visible, stay safe and walk safely."
