Police Target School Zones

Big brother will be watching. Woodstock Police will be deployed in school zones across the city for the next two weeks watching for speeders and distracted drivers. School zones are generally posted at 40 km/h and police will be ticketing those caught exceeding the limits. They will also be looking for those using handheld devices. Constable Steve McEwan says the city bylaw officers will also be monitoring these area's "no stopping" and "no parking" zones. Once school is in next week, police will be watching for motorists disobeying school crossing guards as well. McEwan says "the goal of this particular program is to make drivers aware that our children will be returning to school next week, which we all know but what we want is people to drive with due care and attention and to drive safely in the school areas and start the school year off in a safe manner".
