Potholes Wreaking Havoc

Oxford County Public Works is doing their best to address the pothole problems in the County.

OXFORD COUNTY - Potholes are creating a lot of headaches on our local roadways right now.

Oxford County Public Works is starting their annual tradition of trying to clean up the mess on our roads after a heavy winter.  Director David Simpson offers this advice to motorists right now.

"We obviously recognize that the potholes are somewhat of a seasonal inconvenience for motorists but it is essentially just reminding all road users to drive with caution and keep your attention on the road, to predict or view any potholes that might be coming your way and where it is safe to do so avoid driving over them until our crews can get out there and get them repaired. I think it is just a lot of common sense, just driving a little bit slower and have due caution on those areas that are perhaps more exposed to potholes."

Simpson says they are working as diligently as possible to patch potholes on County roadways until warmer, dryer weather arrives. He adds they do encourage people to report any potholes in the community.

"We have a very large roadway network, however we are never going to be able to find every single pothole. We do encourage residents, businesses to report any significant potholes they are concerned about. We are setting up some interfaces for that on our social media and the Speak up Oxford."

The County also enforces a by-law in the Spring that restricts the amount of weight transport trucks can carry, which helps to reduce our potholes.
