Preparing Inn and Out of the Cold Program

As the nights become cooler the Inn and Out of the Cold program is getting ready for another year.

WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing is getting ready to open the doors to their Inn and Out of the Cold program.

The shelter at St. Paul's Anglican Church will open on November 15th and will be open to anyone who needs a place to stay from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Coordinator Paul Arsenault tells Heart FM people use the shelter every night in the winter.

"We average 7 guests per night, which is down and that's a good thing. We are very good at working with the County of Oxford in transitioning people from the shelter into rooming houses and their own accommodations and apartments. Weather does play a huge part in our numbers; last year we had a warm winter and we didn't have as many people - we also have some transients, people who stop by Woodstock on their way to larger cities like London or Kitchener."

Arsenault says everyone who comes to the shelter is offered coffee and a warm meal. Arsenault says a lot of organizations help in making the shelter a reality for those less fortunate in our community.

"Social Services of Oxford County provide us with funding to run the Inn and Out of the Cold program, Operation Sharing is the host of the this program, and Old St. Paul's Anglican Church has graciously allowed us to use the church basement for this program for the past 13 years."

Arsenault says they also rely on donations from the public and local businesses to help provide the guests with things like meals and coffee.
