Project Lifesaver Helps Police Track Down Missing Woman

Stratford Police say they were able to find a missing senior who suffers from Dementia in 20 minutes thanks to Project Lifesaver.

STRATFORD - Project Lifesaver helped Stratford Police track down a local senior suffering from Dementia who had gone missing.

The 88 year old woman walked away from her home at Anne Hathaway Residence on Monday afternoon. Police were able to use the woman's unique tracking number to search for he with a special device. Within 20 minutes they were able to find her safe and sound at a business on Douro Street.

Everyone involved in this situation was grateful for the missing person’s participation in Project Lifesaver as it certainly helped in locating her quickly and effectively.

Project Lifesaver is an International Program run locally through Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth and the Alzheimer’s Society of Perth County. Project Lifesaver helps families and caregivers to protect loved ones who are at risk of wandering by combining radio technology with a police response. Project Lifesaver participants wear a wrist band, which emits a personalized tracking signal every second, 24 hours a day.

The average documented time it takes police to locate a person involved in Project Lifesaver is 30 minutes, which is important, as the sooner a missing person is located the less likely they are to suffer from any type of injury or trauma. If you are the caregiver of anyone who could possibly benefit from being a participant in Project Lifesaver you are encouraged to contact Victim Services at 519-271-9998 for more information.
