Project #LoveIngersoll Is Looking For Volunteers

Missions Pastor at the Calvary Church Jonnathan Brownlee

Love Ingersoll will officially launch on Good Friday and they will looking for volunteers to sign up at the Ingersoll arena at 6:00 pm.

WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL - The Calvary Church in Woodstock is planning on showing some serious love to their neighbour.

They will launch the #LoveIngersoll project on Good Friday. Missions Pastor at the Calvary Church Jonnathan Brownlee says they will be recruiting volunteers and organizations to perform acts of kindness in Ingersoll.

"Whether it's window cleaning at a seniors home, whether it's raking leaves, we want to create a bunch of projects that we put together and we rally together as a community, not just as a church but as a community working together to make a positive impact."

The Love Ingersoll launch is happening at the Ingersoll District Memorial Arena on Good Friday at 6:00 pm. Brownlee says if you are interested in volunteering, or if you have some ideas on projects they can work on, you should stop by on Friday.

"If you are looking to get involved, we will have a website that is launching on Good Friday and we are also looking for opportunities in the community. So if you have a need, if you have a project that we can partner with you on, we are looking for those, we are looking to build our catalogue of the different services we will provide to the community over our campaign."

Lead Pastor for the Calvary Church Jeff Price says this project is all about putting our faith in action.

“Whether it’s cleaning-up a park or washing windows at a retirement home, coming together to do good is an intentional and practical extension of our church community. It’s not just about hearing a good message on a Sunday morning. We want to go into the community and make a positive ongoing impact.”

Part of the reason the Calvary Church felt compelled to do this campaign is because recent data shows a steady decline in both charitable giving and volunteer hours in Canada. In fact, between 2004 and 2017, the average annual volunteer hours per person declined by 7.3 per cent, with only 43.6 per cent of Canadians incorporating volunteerism as part of their regular schedule. This declining trend is leaving charities and not-for-profit groups strapped for resources when trying to improve the quality of life for vulnerable Canadians.

The hope is to have this campaign evolved and maybe even expand into different towns in Oxford County.
