Racing in Thames Centre

A 36 year old man will be walking for a bit after getting charged with racing in Thames Centre.

A 36 year old man from Thames Centre will be walking for a bit after getting caught doing twice the speed limit.

Police say they clocked the man doing 111 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 km zone on Elgin Road.

The driver was charged with race a motor vehicle and they had their license seized and driver's licence suspended for 7 days.

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario Driver’s Handbook states:

“The risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost five times greater for vehicles crashing at 50 km/h or more above the posted limit on a highway with a posted limit of 100 km/h.  The increase in risk is even greater on roads with lower posted limits. For example, on roads with a posted limit of 60 km/h or less, the risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost eight times greater for vehicles colliding at 50 km/h or more above the posted limit.”
