Rafferty Appeal Denied

A Toronto judge has dismissed the appeal from Michael Rafferty and they will not have a new trial.

TORONTO - The man convicted of killing Victoria Stafford will not get a new trial.

Several media outlets in Canada are reporting that the court has rejected Michael Rafferty's appeal for a new trial. Rafferty's lawyer was arguing the case should be retried because much of the evidence that convicted his client depended on the testimony of his accomplice in the murder Terry-Lynne McClintic. They said McClintic was a known liar the judge in the initial trial should have warned the jury about McClintic's testimony. McClintic pleaded guilty to murder back in 2010 and initially told police that Rafferty killed Tori, but at his trial she claimed that she was the one who delivered the fatal blows.

Rafferty's conviction includes a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. He was convicted back 2012 in the death of Tori Stafford in Woodstock back in 2009.

Members of the Stafford family were at the court hearing today in Toronto and Rafferty's name has been trending on twitter all day.
