Report Cards Will Cost $200,000

It is going to cost the TVSDB and extra $200,000 to do report cards this summer.

Parents with children in the Thames Valley District School Board will be getting their children's marks after all, but it comes with quite a price tag.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario has directed teachers not provide report card comments, enter marks into the system, or discuss marks with parents. Teachers have handed in handwritten versions of marks, but now the board is faced with the task of taking all those class lists, and creating individual marks.

Director of Education Laura Elliott tells Heart FM it is going to take along time to get all of the marks into the system. "This is not something we can do overnight, just because of the volume and the number of students, and so we will be doing this work, a team will be assembled and we will be doing this work during July and August and parents will be able to pick up report cards during the week of August 31st at their child's school."  The expected cost is $200 000, which will come out of the board's accumulated surplus.

All students between grades 1-8 will receive their marks, but they'll have to wait until the end of the summer to see them; distribution will happen during the week of August 31st.
