Road To Recovery

Sharing personal experiences, answering questions while educating the community on the road to recovery from eating disorders.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre recognizes there is a limited number of resources available for locals living with an eating disorder.

The organization is offering a free event, Journey to Recovery - An Eating Disorders Awareness Event Thursday February 5th at WCI (Woodstock Collegiate Institute) where community members and service providers are invited to come hear personal stories from individuals who are on the road to recovery from eating disorders, speak with professional and participate in a question and answer period.

Outreach Social Worker Jenilee Cook is not only assisting in organizing the evening but has travelled the road to recovery herself.  "...to have an awareness and education event here locally, near and dear to my heart so not only individuals have a chance to share their recovery stories with people but also to provide people with a panel of professionals to ask questions and have answers given to them about how to support someone or resources available to them within the community."

Cook emphasizes they want those living with an eating disorder to know that they are not alone in their journey and they understand that the limited resources can make some feel isolated, causing struggles with their recovery.  The WACHC hopes this educational and awareness event will encourage people to come and share their stories, speak with the professionals and truly see that they do not need to travel through the journey alone.

The evening will begin with a thirty minute presentation from three people sharing their personal stories of the road to recovery.  "And then the last hour will be a panel of professionals as well as those individuals and the floor will be opened up to the audience to ask questions about the individuals recoveries or resources in the area or how they can best support someone that they know who's struggling with an eating disorder."

Cook will be presenting her personal story of the journey to recovery...

For more information on the event call Jenilee or Angie at the WACHC 519-537-1111 ext. 207/208.
