Rural Townships Pool Resources on Economic Development

Oxford's rural communities are looking to make a bigger economic impact in the County. East-Zorra-Tavistock, Norwich, Zorra and Southwest Oxford are coming together to create the Rural Oxford Prosperity Corporation. As Southwest-Oxford Mayor David Mayberry says, it's not just about attracting new business and industry to rural Oxford, it's also about keeping and helping the 1000 small businesses in the five rural communities of the County. "We see it as something that would enhance and encourage businesses within the rural township to expand or at least help them overcome any challenges and also being a liaison with other businesses and help them build networks and that sort of thing." Blandford-Bleinheim has not signed on to the Corporation at this point. According to Mayberry, each participating municipality had to put $20,000 into the budget this year for the corporation, with an annual fee likely around the $35,000-40,000 range which will go toward their economic development strategy. They're also seeking someone from the business community to volunteer to help create the business model for Oxford Prosperity Corporation. Anyone interested is asked to contact Mayberry.
