Saint Patrick's Day Safety

It'll take more than the luck of the Irish to keep everyone safe this Saint Patrick's Day. Plan ahead - don't drink and drive.

WOODSTOCK - It takes more than the luck of the Irish to be safe on Saint Patrick's Day.

Woodstock Police are asking drivers to be extra careful today. Constable Steve McEwen says, "I just want to remind everyone that there will be Saint Patrick's festivities around the city and that it's March Break and that there will be lots of people around - there's lots of people on vacation, and a lot of people staying at home. Let's keep the road's safe with the kids out of school."

McEwen says with impaired drivers, police will also be on the lookout for distracted drivers as part of their annual campaign.

Distracted driving has become the leading factor involved in fatal collisions - surpassing impaired driving. Police warn that if the attitude towards distracted driving doesn't change soon, we could see the seventh year where inattentive driver is the number one concern in collisions.
