WOODSTOCK - Woodstonians are mourning the loss of a local sports ambassador.

Dan "Sudsy" Sutherland passed away in Florida Thursday night at the age of 76.

He founded the Woodstock Men's Oldtimers League back in 1987, with only four slo-pitch teams and 56 players. League President Dan Wilford says they now have 18 teams and 288 players.

"He created a league that made it fun for all and that we're still playing. He gave old people like us a place to play ball when there was nowhere else to play."

Sutherland also played fastball, hockey and was a Woodstock Navy Club executive. He was inducted into the Woodstock Sports Wall of Fame in 2017.

Wilford says he is leaving a legacy in the Friendly City.

"He was just a great man; he will be missed by our league and by everyone who knew him."

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday April 14th at the Woodstock Navy Club. It will be open to the public from 2pm to 6pm.
