A local senior has fallen victim to the aptly named Grandparent Scam.

NORFOLK - Police are warning the public about the so called "Grandparent Scam" after a local senior was duped out of $4,000 recently.

Norfolk OPP were called on Friday morning after a local senior fell victim to the scam. They had been called by a man, who claimed to be a police officer and that there son was in police custody after a crash. He told the victim that they needed $4,000 in Apple Gift Cards in order to have their son released from prison.

The senior did as they were told and purchased the gift cards and only called police after they talked to their son on the phone and realized they had fallen victim to a scam.

The OPP are reminding everyone to be extremely vigilant and to be alert for unsolicited calls, emails, faxes or visitors that arrive at your residence.

If anyone should receive a call in this manner, please contact your immediate family and inquire if anyone is in need of assistance. Please do not forward any funds without speaking to family members first.
