School Buses Could Be Delayed Next Week Because of a Driver Shortage

Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services, which includes Oxford County is warning parents to be ready to make alternate arrangements next week as buses may be delayed or even cancelled because of a driver shortage.

OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services, which includes Oxford County is asking parents to be ready to find alternate options for getting your kids to school net week.

They are preparing for possible service disruptions when schools open on September 14th. CAO Maureen Cosyn Heath says they are having a hard time finding drivers right now.

“Bus companies have reported to us that they have had difficulty attracting and retaining drivers since schools were ordered closed in the Spring. In some cases, buses may run late or be cancelled for the day."

Parents and guardians should monitor mybigyellowbus.ca, as well the BusPlanner Delays app, where notifications will be immediately posted. Cosyn Heath says email notifications are also available.

“We understand that families require reliable transportation for students, and we are disappointed to start the school year with the potential for service disruptions. We want to remind parents that they should have back up plans in place just in case. STS will ensure service disruptions are posted on a daily basis to provide as much notice as possible as possible to parents and guardians.”
