Scouts Receive Award

(submitted)

Each scout had to put in more than 100 hours of community service to receive the North Star Award.

WOODSTOCK - It was a celebration last night as 12 Beaver Scouts from the 7th Woodstock Scouts received the North Star Award.

In order to receive the hour, the seven year old scouts had to put in more than 100 hours of community service as a group.

Scouter Dan Binns says the kids looked to the parks for their work.

"So to earn their North Star Award, The youth needed to come up with a community project to participate in and complete that project. Their  project was cleaning up parks within the City of Woodstock. So they completed three parks clean ups."

He says working on the community with youth is important.

"We feel it's very important for everyone to give back to the community they live in. So by getting youth to participate in a young age we feel as though we build in them the desire to give back to their community in the future."

They were joined by family members and special guests including the Mayor as they received the awards.

Registration is now open for next year's scout troop and anyone interested can contact them on their Facebook page.
