Search for Tori Largest in Ontario History

Day 19 of the Tori Stafford murder trial began with the cross-examination of Dr. Michael Pollanen, Ontario's chief forensic pathologist. He testified yesterday to the extensive injures he found suffered by 8-year-old Tori Stafford in performing her autopsy. Michael Rafferty's Defence lawyer did not spend a lot of time questioning Dr. Pollanen, but did get him to reiterate that medical evidence in the case is "silent on whether there was a sexual assault". That is due to the state of decomposition by the time Tori was found in July 2009, over 3-months after her disappearance and murder. The second witness to take the stand today is OPP Sargent and ERT Coordinator Jamie Stirling. Heart FM Reporter Blair Wilson says Stirling is outlining the search efforts of police in the case, regarded as the largest in the OPP's history. "The OPP Search efforts are absolutely staggering and impressive...5775 assignments using Emergency Response Teams, Underwater Search and Recovery, Canine Units, garbage landfill searches and 18,000kms of land covered...and the list continues." Police searched through over 830-tonnes of garbage for evidence in the case. Wilson will have more on the testimony this evening on Heart FM News.
