Woodstock Police are warning the public about a secret shopper scam hitting the Friendly City

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a secret shopper scam hitting the Friendly City.

Police were called after a Woodstock resident was looking for a job online with what turned out to be a fraudulent business claiming to be running a "secret shopper" company. The victim in this cases was corresponding with the company via email. They were given a bogus cheque from the company based out of Mississauga using the email address hr@goodlonksllc. The cheque was worth $2,418 and the victim was told to deposit the cheque in their personal bank account and keep $400 for themselves and then wait for further instructions.

The victim in this case ended up calling police after the bank would not cash the cheque.

Police are warning the public to:

"    Be careful when you are seeking employment opportunities on line
"    Do not provide any confidential personal information to any person online or over the phone
"    Honest business's do not ask for cash
"    If it sounds too good to be true it is
"    Report frauds to www.antifraudcentre.ca or your local Police Service
