Southwestern Public Health Confirms 9 New Cases of COVID-19 This Morning

The local health unit confirmed 9 new cases this morning and 10 recoveries. They also announced that 3 people are currently in the hospital with the virus, however none are in the ICU.

OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health confirmed 9 new cases of the virus this morning and another 10 recoveries. 

This means we currently have 65 active cases in the region with most of them in Norwich, Aylmer and Woodstock. We currently have 3 people in the hospital with the virus from the region according to the Health Unit, however none of them are in the ICU. 

Here is the breakdown of the locations according to Southwestern Public Health:

Woodstock - 21

Norwich - 18

Tillsonburg - 4

Ingersoll - 3

Blandford-Blenheim - 1

East Zorra-Tavistock -1

Zorra Township - 1

Aylmer - 11

St. Thomas - 4

Bayham - 1 

To date we have had 9 institutional outbreaks at Long Term Care Homes. The health unit is reporting two active outbreaks at the Bethany Long Term Care Home in Norwich and the Arches Transitional Bed Program. In both cases the outbreak was declared after a staff member tested positive. 

The number one symptom that has led to a positive test in the region is a cough, followed by a fever. Other symptoms that have resulted in positive tests include fatigue, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion just to name a few. 18% of people who have tested positive in our region were asymptomatic.
