Special Weather Statement

Environment Canada warning travel could be tricky this weekend

OXFORD COUNTY - Environment Canada is warning travel could be difficult this weekend due to changes in the weather system.

This comes as a Special Weather Statement is issued for Oxford County by the agency ahead of what they are calling a significant winter storm which is expected to cross Southern Ontario this weekend.

Precipitation is expected to begin Saturday as snow before changing to rain later Saturday or Sunday. Some freezing rain is possible during the transition from snow to rain, with a prolonged period possible for areas northwest of the Golden Horseshoe and regions along the Ottawa Valley.

Temperatures are expected to be well above freezing Sunday, reaching double digits for some areas but the agency says a cold front will sweep across Southern Ontario late Sunday bringing a return to cold temperatures, strong winds and flurries.
