Woodstock Museum celebrates winter sports and the Perry Street Arena

Woodstock Museum's latest exhibit will appeal to the historian and the sports fan.

The Way We Used To Play opened January 21.

Collection Exhibit Coordinator Adam Pollard says the exhibit came about as a way to tie in the winter Olympics as well as the 100th anniversary of the Perry Street arena.

"There's going to be a history of the Perry Street arena obviously and then we are going to go through the different winter sports that were predominantly played in Woodstock . We have hockey, curling, figure skating, ice skating, skiing and then we touch on tobogganing and snow shoeing which would have been more recreational than competitive."

Pollard says when planning the exhibit the museum discovered they didn't have as much of a collection as they thought they did in storage.

"What we're figuring is that, most people used, like their hockey equipment, they used it up until it was dead and then they threw it in the garbage, they didn't donate it to a museum or they passed it on to a younger sibling. There isn't really a lot in the collections in Oxford County for this stuff so we did have to call in the public, the local clubs, they were very helpful and also the Sports Wall of Fame has some help in that too."

Admission to the exhibit is free and runs now until March 22.
