St Patrick’s Day Safety in Woodstock

Woodstock Police officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend, focusing their efforts on the popular drinking spots in the area.

WOODSTOCK - Members of the Woodstock Police Service want to make sure everyone has a fun and safe time this St Patrick's Day.

Those with Irish heritage and people who just like to have a good time will be hitting the bars or attending house parties this weekend.

Try to avoid drinking on an empty stomach and make sure you stay hydrated throughout the evening. If you are drinking you most definitely should not be driving. Be sure to arrange a ride to and from your destination beforehand.

Constable Nikki VanLeewen tells Heart FM about the consequences of driving drunk.

"You would be arrested, your vehicle would be impounded, you'd lose your licence for 90 days, you could serve jail time and if convicted you could lose your licence for up to two years."

Police will also be handing out $85 tickets for public intoxication.

Woodstock Police will be on the lookout for troublemakers throughout the weekend, focusing their efforts on the popular drinking spots in the Friendly City.
