Stage for Changes Comes to Woodstock

A free event featuring two musical acts and a Guinness World Record holding illusionist hopes to change the way we look at addiction.

WOODSTOCK - Stage for Change will be making a stop in Woodstock.

OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik says this event is meant to help change the public perception around those suffering from addiction. "When you have the community support it helps to get rid of that stigma that is attached to addictions. So we can support them but they also need to know where to get the help to break the cycle. If they want to come out there will be all kinds of information available - if they want to make that step towards the change then they can get the help that they need."

The Church of Epiphany located at 560 Dundas Street is expecting a large crowd for the free event and Constable Narancsik says it's important we open the lines of dialogue on these tough issues. "Basically the premise is to shift the thinking about addictions and recovery. It's to create awareness in understanding for those wanting to make a change for substance abuse, substance abuse patterns, and gambling addictions. It is to support the Stage for Change, to have a supportive environment, and have a free event."

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight. It features two musical acts: Broomsticks and Hammers and headliner Abby Stewart. Canada's only three time Guinness World Record holding Illusionist Lucas Wilson will be there as well. As well, enjoy art, poetry and food. Constable Narancsik says it promises to be quite the night. "This is the first one for Woodstock or for Oxford County, it is a free event, with three different performances we have two different bands and an illusionist. Just show up we want to see people out and enjoying the evening."
