Still Time to Get Involved in The Walk For Alzheimer's

The Walk for Alzheimer's is back to educate and bring awareness about dementia. The first walk will be this weekend in Tillsonburg at the Lions Auditorium on Saturday.

WOODSTOCK/TILLSONBURG - The annual Walk for Alzheimer's is coming up once again.

The walk is to help fundraise for people living with dementia so future generations can have a world without Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementias.

Executive Director for the Alzheimer's Society of Oxford Shelley Green says it's not too late to get involved.

"There's two ways to get involved in the walks, you can come on your own and raise your own funds, come with a friend, family, your neighbour, you'll have a great time no matter who you go with. the other way to get involved is to form a team and it's not too late to get involved as a team, as the team captain you can sign people that you work with, friends, family, just anybody that would have an interest in coming out to the walk, you can come up with a name a team look, you can call our office for suggestions and help in getting started as a team or any questions about the walks at 1-877-594-2368."

Last year the 37,000 people in the walk across the country raised $6.2 million for the fund, which is the most ever raised in the history of the event and this year they have already raised over $9,000 for the cause.

The funds all go towards programs and services for people living with dementia and Alzheimer's and to support the awareness and education about dementia.

The Walk is more than just a fundraiser, it helps people living with the diseases know they are not alone in the community and that there are people who care enough about them to help stop the disease.

Green says that everyone in the society is thankful for the community.

"In Tillsonburg this is our 25th anniversary, and in Woodstock it's our 26th walk, so this has been a long standing fundraiser here in Oxford County and we're just so pleased and so thankful to our community for not only standing behind the event but supporting it so generously because even now it continues to grow each year and we're all so thankful for that support.

The walks are coming up this weekend and next weekend and will take place in Tillsonburg on Saturday the 18th at the Lions Auditorium from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and in Woodstock on Saturday the 25th at the Oxford Auditorium from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
