Stratford Police Brief

It was a busy weekend for Stratford Police including thefts from unlocked cars, a driver evading police, and a family domestic call.

STRATFORD - Stratford Police had a very busy New Year's weekend responding to 180 calls.

On New Year's day around 5 a.m. officers tried to stop a large black SUV on Erie Street near St. David's St. The driver did not stop and fled from officers at a high rate of speed. The driver was eventually able to shake the police who then discontinued the pursuit.

On the morning of Saturday, January 2nd police were called out to Simpson Court on numerous reports of vehicle break-ins. Twelve unlocked vehicles were entered and wallets, purses, and other personal items were taken. The police are reminding everyone to lock their vehicles.

Also on Saturday around 3:15 p.m. officers responded to a Glastonbury Drive address for a family domestic call. When officers arrived at the home a man had barricaded himself inside and refused to come out. The father exited the home safely and said he had been assaulted by his 31 year old son. The officers entered the home, worried about the man's wellbeing, and apprehended him. The man will be charged with assault, mischief, and several counts of breaching his probation. The officers say there was no threat to anyone in the area at the time. The young man was transported to a local hospital after taking an unknown quantity of prescription medication.

Officers found a vehicle in the Avondale Cemetery on Sunday. The vehicle had been reported as stolen by the Perth County OPP. The vehicle was taken in for processing, but police have no suspects at this time.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to call Stratford Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

STRATFORD - Stratford Police are asking residents to ignore a scam that is circulating that involves the Canadian Revenue Agency.

Over the past 24hrs the detachment as received numerous calls that residents have received calls or emails from the CRA.  It is being asked that you never give any personal information to those that you don't know.
