Taking Steps For Safer Roads

Reduced speeds signs and an all-way stop are some of the traffic safety measures coming to three areas in the region. Oxford County council endorsed them during their meeting last night, which is a part of an approach to make roads safer across Oxford County.

OXFORD COUNTY - Multiple traffic measures and road safety measures will be coming to areas in Oxford County.

It is a part of a County-wide approach to ensure roads are safer.

Warden Larry Martin says if these efforts work, then it's something they'd consider in other areas of the region.

"A lot of the drivers don't realize anymore the damage they can do sometimes because they totally ignore the roads and the road signs that are out there and this is just a recommendation to try and make the roads safer for the people."

The measures include an all-way stop and controlled pedestrian crossing in Ingersoll and a reduced speed zone and all-way stop on Oxford Road 55 in Muir.

Warden Martin says there are also two safety signs put up in school zones in the Township of Norwich.

"They mentioned tonight, there was a three-way stop in Ingersoll and then there was a four-way stop up in Muir on Line 55."

The all-way stop and controlled pedestrian stopping will be at the intersection of Oxford Road 119 and Canterbury Street in Ingersoll and speed management and a road safety review will be held at Oxford Road 6 in Embro.

He adds they'll be placing reduced speed signs in Embro.

There will also be modifications to other school zones in the County, including Woodstock Trinity School in Innerkip, and Zorra Highland Park in Zorra Township.
