Teen Inspires Sobeys Team with Operation Sharing Donations

Heart FM Local News

An 18 year old Woodstock Sobey's employee has found a way to give back to her community.

During her shift last night, part time employee Natalie Geerlinks committed to pay out of her own pocket every time someone at her till turned down the 25 cent Operation Sharing donation.

Geerlinks tells Heart FM why she decided to do this.

"I just noticed that there was a lot of people saying "no" and then I also saw on Facebook, I follow Free the Children and they put something up that a 21 year old girl was doing 21 random acts of kindness for her birthday so I thought, hey I should do that since I just turned 18, so I'll do 18 random acts of kindness. This is number one!"

Acting Store Manager Stephanie Harnock says she was stunned when she heard what Natalie was prepared to do.

"Wow. It's great to know that someone on our team wants to do such great things for our community."

In the end, Natalie was left with a $17.25 tab, which she decided to double.

Stephanie also committed to matching Natalie's donation out of her own pocket, and other departments within the store are also planning to collectively match the donation.
