Teenagers Charged in Thefts From Ingersoll Cars

Three teenagers were arrested and charged after a series of vehicle break ins, prompting the OPP to remind residents 'Lock It or Lose It.'

Three 13 year old boys are getting an early lesson in law after several cars were broken into in Ingersoll.

On the morning of Saturday December 19th around 2:52 a.m. police noticed a vehicle with the door left wide open on Etna street. OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik tells Heart FM officers caught up to three suspects while they were going through a vehicle on Tunis Street. "We recently arrested three youth who had been rummaging through vehicles overnight and unfortunately in the last couple of weeks leading up to it there had been several vehicle entries in the town of Ingersoll. We were able to link some of them to these youth and retrieve some property as a result of the investigation."

The boys were charged with Theft Under $5 000 from a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5 000. They have been released on a promise to appear in the new year.

Police were able to recover several items including binoculars, a variety of sunglasses, two GPS units, an IPod, pocket knives, garage door opener, cologne, lottery tickets, and change.

Narancsik says this should serve as another reminder to people to lock it or lose it. "We reinforce lock it or you're possibly going to lose what you leave in your vehicles. People are still leaving valuables in their vehicles - unlocked - and this is what happened this time around."

She also says keeping valuables in your car, especially if it's unlocked, is tempting to thieves. "GPS units, even sometimes people who spend a lot of money on sunglasses, they could be expensive sunglass: if they are then remove them because people will steal them. Garage door openers - we all need our garage door openers. If you're leaving your garage door openers in your car as well, the risk is they may get stolen."

Narancsik says if would-be thieves try the door and find it locked, most of them will simply move on as they are looking for easy targets.
