Tennants Take Pride in Sprucing Up Building

Local dignitaries put on their judging cap for the second annual Garden Balcony Awards. This year, the awards were held at a rent geared to income building on Fyfe Ave. The contest, which was a tenant initiative, encouraged residents to work on the landscape in front of their apartment as part of a friendly competition. The contest invited guests judges from the County, including councillor Deb Tate to judge the submission at 161 Fyfe Ave. First Place Winner Catherine Masters say more buildings in the County should promote beautification. "If we can get more buildings in Oxford County doing it, I think all the better. I think every building should be involved. It's something to take pride in." Community Health Outreach Worker Jenilee Cook says the spruced up building looks great against their new exterior addition. "The United Way Day of Caring came and re-did our patio. So they built us some wheelchair accessible flower boxes, re-did our picnic table and beautified our cement slab patio into something really cool. We call it our summer oasis." Cook says response from residents has been extremely positive with renewed pride in where they live.
