Turtlefest a Success

Tillsonburg residents were asked to come out of their shell for the second annual Turtlefest. Owner of Turtle Haven, Angie Shullen says for her, Turtlefest is all about educating people on the dangers turtles face. She says snapping turtles take 30 years to reproduce but after laying their eggs the mothers often get hit on the road and then animals come along and eat the eggs. Shullen says often times people will purchase turtles from the pet store when they are little not realizing they can grow to more than 20 pounds and then will abandon them. She says she takes in turtles and nurses them to health on her own dime. She says she was happy to be at Turtlefest educating kids. Participant Lisa Harper says this was her second year and was happy to see how much it grew from last year saying her children had a great time getting their faces painted and playing with the turtles.
