Van Ave Park Changes

If you frequent the Vansittart Avenue Park you may notice some work was done on approximately nine trees.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has removed several mature sugar maple trees in Vansittart Avenue Park.

Supervisor of Parks and Forestry in Woodstock, Chris Kern says "those trees were actually scheduled to be removed last year but we ran out of funding because of the ongoing Emerald Ash Borer problem with the trees dying but we have a ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) certified arborist that analyzes the trees and he deemed those trees to be removed with our hazard rating system."

Kern says they will replace the trees but normally it takes about a year. "We will be looking for more mature plants for in the park. It's a little different than being a boulevard tree that has a smaller area for the roots to grow. It's a wide open space so we will be planting more mature trees of course in our bigger parks like that."
