West Region OPP Respond to 194 Collisions in 12 Hours

West Region OPP responded to 194 collisions over a 12 hour period, 14 of those collisions happened in Oxford County. One woman is facing life threatening injuries.

OXFORD COUNTY - It has been a crazy 12 hours from first responders in the West Region.

Oxford OPP have confirmed to Heart FM they have responded to 14 collisions during the storm and those numbers are just from Oxford. In the West Region, police have responded to 194 collisions. The crashes in Oxford County include several on the 401 and 403. The on ramp at Highway 2 was closed for three hours this morning because of a collision. Police also responded to several crashes between Woodstock and Drumbo. This doesn't even take into account the amount of vehicles that have gone into the ditch.

Constable Ed Sanchuk says speed is a common factor in most of the collisions.

"Please make sure you take those 5 to 10 extra minutes to warm up your vehicle, make sure your vehicle is filled up with gas and just take your time getting home or going to work so you can get home to your loved ones."

OPP did respond to a serious head on collision on Highway 403 last night. A 20 year old woman was taken to the hospital in Hamilton and is listed in serious condition.

The woman was ejected from her vehicle while travelling eastbound on Hwy 403 before crossing over the median, striking the guard rail on the westbound side of the highway. The vehicle went air born, directly into the path of a westbound transport truck.

Police are reminding everyone to slow down, drive to the conditions and make sure you give yourself plenty of space between vehicles.
