Woodstock City Council Present Bravery Awards

3 local residents took control of a city bus after the driver became ill and now they are going to be rewarded for their bravery

WOODSTOCK - A special ceremony will be happening at Woodstock City Council this evening.

Councillor Jerry Acchione explains what is going to take place.  "Bravery awards, this is big for City Hall, we have 3 people here in town that are going to get a bravery award from City Hall."

This is the first time in recent years bravery awards will been handed out, and Councillor Acchione spoke to Heart FM on what led these individuals to receive this award.  "One of our city workers actually fell ill, I don't know exactly what happened but basically fell ill, and could not drive the bus at a stoplight but it did proceed to roll through. These three people assisted in stopping the bus before an accident happened and stayed with the bus driver until help arrived."

With a potential serious collision avoided, Councillor Acchione discusses what this says about citizens of Woodstock.  "This is incredible the one that got behind the wheel doesn't even have her licence, she got behind a big bus and stopped it for everyone's safety.  The City of Woodstock is just phenomenal, and the people in it should be commended.  I put this forward at City Hall to see what we could do to recognize them and we are giving out bravery awards."

The three individuals receiving the awards are Jessica Lower, Maureen Wood, and Glen Forster.
