Woodstock Cup Day

Jake Muzzin celebrated his Stanley Cup win with the community Sunday afternoon.

WOODSTOCK -- Friendly City Native and L.A Kings defenceman Jake Muzzin arrived on a firetruck to meet fans at the Woodstock Community Complex.

Muzzin started his day at City Hall where he boarded a fire truck that drove him to the thousands of fans eagerly awaiting his arrival at Goff Hall.

Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski was on hand to present Muzzin with the key to the city and declare July 27th, 2014 Jake Muzzin Day.

In celebration of the Dairy Capital, Muzzin drank chocolate milk from the Cup.

For some it was hours before they got an autograph. However that didn't stop the excitement. Some passed the time with pick-up hockey, others supported the Alf Langdon Play Hockey Fund by purchasing merchandise or grabbing a bite to eat at the Woodstock Minor Hockey charity barbecue.

Muzzin also presented a cheque to the family of the late Alf Langdon, showing his support for the fund which gives financial support to children who can not afford the costs of registration or equipment to play Minor Hockey in Woodstock.

One young fan, who shares his first name with the NHLer, waiting patiently outside of Goff Hall to meet Muzzin and see the Stanley Cup said  "I am really, really excited.  This is...this has been one of my best dreams ever.  I've been wanting to see it my whole life."

Ty was one fan who has a lot in common with the NHL star.  "I play for the Tillsonburg Tornadoes. I look forward to playing because hockey is my one favourite sport, LA Kings is my favourite team and I'm just so happy to be here."

A banner was set up for the public to sign to show their support of the local NHLer. Muzzin signed autographs and posed for pictures for three hours inside Goff Hall.

In his short NHL career Muzzin has achieved what some hockey players wait their whole lives for. This was the first time the Cup has come to town and it doesn't look like it will be the last, the 25 year old is only just getting started.
