"Woodstock Day" Saturday

Woodstock resident Marie Bowerman receives a Jays jersey from pitcher Aaron Loup at Woodstock Day at Rogers Centre last season.

Annual Woodstock Day at Rogers Centre will feature the Blue Jays taking on the Boston Red Sox Saturday.

WOODSTOCK -- Woodstock Day with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre is fast approaching and for those who purchased a voucher and haven't picked up their tickets for the game, the deadline is Friday at 6:00 PM.  Tickets can be redeemed at the Woodstock Community Complex box office.

The Jays will take on the defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox for a 1:07 PM start.

Communication and Special Event Manager for the City of Woodstock, Brad Janssen says this year marks the tenth annual Blue Jays trip for the city and a trip which still generates plenty of interest.

"We're just short of twelve hundred, which is up a little bit from last year. We've taken as many as fifteen-hundred but we try to keep it cost effective for families to enjoy a good day at the ball-park."

Janssen says fans attending this year's game will notice they're seated in a new section, the Level 200 right field seats.  Years past have seen fans from Woodstock seated on third base side of the stadium's 100 Level seating.

Janssen says those riding the bus down to the game will meet Saturday morning off Nellis Street.

"We'll start loading buses at 8 o'clock at the Civic Centre parking lot and you'll see all 17 yellow school buses which will be horseshoed around the perimeter of the parking lot.  Representatives of the Woodstock Taekwondo Club will also be on hand to direct people where to go so that we have organized parking."

After the game, Janssen says buses will be leaving Rogers Centre 30 minutes after the final pitch.

As for the first pitch on Saturday, it will be thrown out by Woodstock's Christian Nyp, while Woodstock Christian School will perform both the American and Canadian national anthems before the game.

Janssen says for the over twelve-hundred people who took advantage of tickets for this year's trip, they can expect many more things "Woodstock" to be showcased throughout the afternoon.

"We'll be on the Jumbotron many times throughout the course of the day, representing all of our sponsors and celebrating the fact that Woodstock is the largest municipality that takes advantage of the Blue Jays group sales incentive," said Janssen Wednesday.

Woodstock's David Hilderley will also be honoured before the game as a local community champion.

Brandon Morrow has already been announced as the Jays tentative starter for Saturday's game.  Morrow was dealt a no-decision in a 6-4 loss to Cleveland in his last outing.  He has yet to work more than six innings in any of his four starts this season.

The Red Sox have yet to announce who will be starting Saturday for Game 2.
