Woodstock is among the hospitals in Ontario to receive additional funding. The Ingersoll Alexandra Hospital will receive $144,000 and the Tillsonburg General Hospital will also get an increase of $226,000

OXFORD COUNTY - The provincial government is providing more support for health care in Ontario.

The Government of Ontario is looking to end hallway health care even further by increasing investments in hospitals across the province.

In an announcement today, Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says there is additional funding going to hospitals in Oxford County.

“Our government is supporting local hospitals by making sure they have the resources they need to provide excellent care to our communities in Oxford. This new investment in Oxford hospitals is another way that the government is supporting high-quality and timely access to care, while delivering on our commitment to end hallway medicine.”

The Ingersoll Alexandra Hospital will receive $144,000, the Tillsonburg General Hospital will get an increase of $226,000 and $1.23 million more will go towards the Woodstock General Hospital.

Woodstock Hospital President & CEO Perry Lang says the money improves their facility.

“We are grateful for this additional funding. This funding allows the Woodstock Hospital to continue to provide exceptional patient care and it helps address the volume increases that we are experiencing."

President and CEO of TDMH and AHI, Sandy Jansen says the funding helps both of the hospitals.

“The additional funding for this fiscal year is greatly appreciated by both Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital and Alexandra Hospital Ingersoll.  The funding provides us with some financial stability as we approach what is expected to be a very busy flu season and associated pressures on our very busy emergency departments. We are grateful to Minister Elliott and MPP Hardeman for their support of our hospitals and the patients and families we serve.”

The government is investing an additional $68 million to support small- and medium-sized hospitals across the province. This new investment is on top of the $384 million more that Ontario’s hospitals received this year as part of the province’s 2019 budget.

This investment will help ensure that families in Oxford continue to have access to high-quality care and protect existing core services in communities across the province.

Hardeman adds the investment will benefit both small and medium-sized hospitals.

“By working with our hospital partners, we are fixing long-standing issues with how small and medium-sized hospitals are funded. We are listening to patients and frontline staff to see how we can build financial stability and help provide relief to hospitals, regardless of their size.”
