Woodstock Police Represented In Ottawa

A member of the Woodstock Police will be taking part in the five day Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police Service will be well represented at this year's Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember.

Inspector Paul Hess will join 152 officers from across the country in cycling 679 km from the Ontario Police College in Aylmer to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Hess will start his journey this morning and should finish up in Ottawa on Sunday.

In 1998 the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September as Police and Peace Officers National Memorial Day. Hess will be representing Woodstock Police on Parliament Hill this Sunday in honour of those police and peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe.

In 2000 a small group of cyclists represented the Niagara Regional Police Service rode to Ottawa for the National Police and Peace Officers Memorial Service on Parliament Hill. Since then the ride has expanded to include officers from Toronto, York, Peel, Windsor, Kingston, St. Thomas, Midland, Halton, Hamilton, Guelph, Durham, Ottawa, Strathroy, Corrections, O.P.P, R.C.M.P, Abbotsford BC, Saskatoon, Nassau and Amherst New York State, and now Woodstock Police Service.

Hess was inspired by a fellow officer to join the RIDE. Hess says "I am excited to be representing Woodstock Police Service at the Memorial in Ottawa. I chose to participate because I like cycling. I was looking for a challenge and I want to raise awareness and pay tribute to Canadian Peace Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty".
